Graduated from Govt College of Art & Craft, Kolkata, 1975.
Formerly Senior Fellow, Dept. of H.R, Govt. of India. Founder member & Secretary “Calcutta Sculptors”. Recipient of many Awards & Scholarships including Governor’s Gold Medal, Academy of fine Arts, Kolkata, Rabindra Bharati University & State Lalit Kala Academy, M. P. Eleven Solo and Eight Joint Exhibitions in Kolkata, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad & Santiniketan. More than 80 Group Shows & 34 giant installations spread all over India, sizes ranging 10 to 55 feet high for N.T.P.C, SAIL, IFFCO, States & Central Govt. Organizations. Participated in several workshops & camps in India and abroad including Ramkinkar Baij Centenary, Bronze casting camp, organized by Lalit Kala Academy & Kala Bhavan, Santiniketan. Adding yet another feather to his cap, the Kolkata Port Trust installed a work by Tapas Sarkar, on its 150th anniversary.
